Thanks for wanting to find out more! My teaching journey began as an excited and eager NQT, carried on amazingly, went downhill because of disillusionment and finally took a positive turn when I aimed to leave! I still hadn’t quite hit 40! Did I want to be doing this for another 25 years?
The job had changed so much since I started! “Did I want to do this job for 15 more years?” became “Could I do this job for 15 more years?” Answer: NO! I needed to get out. As the job became less about the kids, more about new initiatives, time-wasting meetings and jumping through the most pointless of hoops at the expense of spending time with my family, my resentment for the job grew and I could see no way around it.
I couldn’t just quit! I had a mortgage and family to look after! As more and more of my time started to be eroded and consumed by the thankless job of teaching, I realised enough was enough. But how can you leave a relatively well paid job?
As a humanities teacher, I often joked with colleagues that there was actually nothing else out there for me to do. Not without a massive pay cut. Then it hit me! I can’t quit teaching…yet! So I slowly (and quietly – none of my colleagues knew, and none of my now ex-colleagues know to this day) started to build up different ways of making money. Working for myself, on my terms, building up a portfolio of income building schemes to slowly ween my way off my salary.
OK, I hear you! “How could you do that? You were complaining about having no time for your family!” That is true! But all those times on a Friday and Saturday night when I could have been watching a film? I’d always have time for a film! Or looking for holidays! Or looking on Facebook or Twitter! Well not anymore! This was my time to increase my earnings.
This blog is for those teachers who are like I was. I can pick my child up from school, drop him off in the morning and enjoy Sundays again! I am NOT promising to make you a millionaire (I’ll save that for the click-bait websites)! In my experience of 4 years doing this, that internet ship has sailed (but you never know!). I’ve been earning more than I was at school for nearly two years now, I’m still improving and never looking back!
I want to show you how to successfully quit teaching. You won’t look back either!
